2022 was the biggest year to date for South Africa’s rising star Themba. He wrapped up his 16 week Ibiza summer residency at the island's hottest new venue Club Chinois, while gracing the decks in hot-spots such as Mykonos, New York, Tulum & other key Ibiza shows including Hi with Black Coffee. Themba’s unique sound is forged from his African roots creating his instantly identifiable take on electronic music. After releasing on high-profile labels, he established himself with 'Who Is Themba' on his own Herd label. His 2021 debut album ‘Modern Africa Part 1’ on Armada featured some of South Africa’s most talented vocalists as well as remixes from Black Coffee, Martinez Brothers, Damian Lazarus, Dense & Pika & Rocco. 2022 saw the release of another breakthrough single 'Disappear' with Nico De Andrea & 'Fragile' with FNX Omar, followed by Heritage EP featuring Fela Kuti, Sunny Ade & other legendary African music artists. We are passionate about promoting the Boran breed in South Africa. As an indigenous breed it has many beneficial characteristics, such as high resistance to ticks, biting insects and disease; the ability to maintain condition during drought; a strong herd instinct which provides protection from predation and theft; good temperament, strong mothering instincts, high fertility and longevity. Its ability to be fattened off the veld is a huge advantage in the production of organic grass-fed beef. Hotspot started out in 1997 as the result of my dreams as a 11 year old boy. I grew up with a dairy that my grandfather started in the 1970’s. I had always wanted to have my own cattle and was privileged to buy 2 heifers when I was 11 years old. In 2006 I bought 14 Boran Embryo’s from Simon Hodgen. 9 Heifers were born out of this batch and so Hotspot Boran started out. Through extensive embryo programmes I only multiplied the best to grow the herd. In 2014 I married the love of my life, Elri, who’s dad, Ockert Werner is also a Boran Breeder and owner of Model Boran stud, also one of the top Boran Stud’s in the country.
