My name is Kenzie! I was adopted from Ukraine at 12 months old. I was born with Down syndrome and a severe heart defect, they didn’t really expect me to survive. But I did… and I’m here living my best life. I had open heart surgery at 8 weeks old, and then my mommy and daddy found pictures of me when I was 4 months old, living in an orphanage. When mommy saw my picture she said she HAD to have me. Im so thankful that she did, and lucky for me she and daddy came to see me in Ukraine at 10 months old, and at 12 months old they were allowed to legally adopt me and take me home. I am such a lucky girl. I have 2 older brothers and 1 older sister. Yep, I am the baby and boy am I spoiled and loved. My parents find it very important to give me every opportunity possible, so I can be challenged and show the world what I am capable of. I love to inspire people. Down syndrome is just a small part of who I am. I am determined to do everything I can! Follow my journey, maybe I will inspire you too!

A CHD can be described as a structural anomaly which occurs while a baby is developing in the uterus. Most CHDs require surgery, lifelong care, long-term medications, and more. Preia Angela Degamon was given birth with downsyndrome. When she was born on 03 March 2017 she had atrial septal defect (ASD). This means that her septum (the muscular wall separating the heart into the left and right sides) was open. Because of this Preia had to undergo Cardiac Cathetherisation procedure - a thin, flexible tube (catheter) was inserted into her blood vessel at her groin and guided to her heart where septal hole was closed down. The procedure was done free under NHS. Prior to the closure of the hole, Preia was always confined at Barnet General Hospital. We are so thankful to the NHS because our baby has grown up healthy. Preia is the ambassadress of the Love for Downs UK. Its main advocacy is to help downsyndrome kids in the Philippines. Even before the creation of this channel we had been helping Filipinos back home who were in need. This time we are focusing more on extending help to the downsyndrome kids in the Philippines. We can do this with your help.

If you are a technologist in a hospital that does not have a dedicated pediatric echo tech this channel will help you. If you are a new technologist in the field, I can help you learn the ropes. If you are a parent of a child with a congenital heart defect I've been told by countless parents that they really understood what there child's congenital heart defect was after I explained it to them. I will say that any information I give you should always be secondary to your doctors explanation. I'm here to help you, but remember, if you don't get an adequate explanation from your doctor, bug them until you do. Mainly, this is an educational channel for technologists.
