An outlier in the landscape of UK rap, Jam Baxter is the scene’s premiere surrealist. Beginning his career as part of foundational hip hop collective Contact Play, the emcee experimented with boom bap, narrating the mucky stories of a misspent adolescence. But following his sophomore solo release on High Focus – The Gruesome Features – he slid further and further away from realism, constructing his own nightmarish visions of a world subsumed by vice and venom. His breakout single, “Brains”, would come to crystallise this emerging style: an allegory about drug use and dissociation, centreing around a shady brain salesman and the degenerates that keep him in business.

Tegmentum is a cosmic progressive metal project with Michael Ball producing the music/playing guitar, Chelsea Murphy (DAWN OF OUROBOROS, CAILLEACH CALLING) on vocals, Kenji Tsunami (ONTOGENY) on bass, and Andrew Baird (ex-FALLUJAH) on drums. This project is formed with the intent of crossing over progressive metal styles with extreme elements typically found in technical death metal bands. Tegmentum aims to expand the subgenre of progressive metal to include new ways of expression. The cosmic theme of our music is an allegory for self-discovery that boldly explores an emotional spectrum of euphoric highs and very deep lows. It represents a struggle with seemingly unknowable cosmic forces to create an emotional balance where light and dark elements coexist. We hope to create a captivating sound that pushes the progressive metal genre in a meaningful way. The extreme musical overtones give this project a unique edge while containing the hallmarks of top-tier progressive metal acts.
