SOC 119

As you watch videos on our channel, keep in mind that what you’re watching is a narrow slice of what goes on in a university classroom that is focused on race, ancestry, culture, and all things controversial. In fact, it’s the largest race and culture class in the United States with nearly 800 students. You’ll likely have opinions one way or another regarding what you’re watching (hopefully, anyway), but you might only watch just one or maybe a few videos. There are 2,250 minutes in a single semester so it’s likely that something you wish had been discussed was addressed in another video. No one SOC 119 class is ever repeated and, after over three decades teaching this course, this means just about every angle on a topic has been stated by Dr. Richards. However, if you find yourself disagreeing about something or, more importantly, if “Sam” really does miss an important point, let us know. He really is trying to be thoughtful and fair-minded.

Order of Friars Minor, Peravoor

St. Bonaventure College, which has its motto “In Sanctitate et Doctrina”, is a centre for the study of Philosophy and Religion named after St. Bonaventure of Bagnoregio (1195-1231), the Patron of Franciscan Studies and Learning. It traces its origin back to 1952 as “St. Anthony’s Franciscan College” in Bengaluru. From the year 1983 onwards, the centre began a full-fledged three-year programme known as Basic Formation, which focuses on the holistic growth of the students towards priesthood or lay brotherhood. This programme consists mainly of courses in Philosophy, along with some courses in Psychology, Sociology and Franciscan Studies, and it has been considered equivalent to the Degree of Bachelor of Philosophy in all the ecclesiastical institutions.
