Larry Harlow is a true living legend of Afro-Cuban music. Born in Brooklyn, New York and a graduate of the prestigious NY High School of Music and Art, he excelled on oboe, flute, bass and the instrument that he is most famous for, the piano. Although jazz and the stylings of Art Tatum were his first love, his growing exposure as a teenager to the music and culture of the New York Latino community fascinated him. This led to a trip to Cuba in 1957 where he began a two year intense study of Afro-Cuban music in all of its manifestations; from West African based liturgical repertoire to popular dance styles. Upon his return to New York he quickly made a name for himself as a top bandleader and was quickly signed by the new Fania Record Company, the most important label in the history of Latin music. Larry completely revolutionized what is known today SALSA, developing the explosive trumpet / trombone sound of the contemporary Latino bands of the time.

Mostrando desde pequeño interés por la música, a los 11 años formó parte de grupos de cantantes llamados The 4 J's y Little Jr. and the Class Mates. Participó con ellos en varias actividades, incluyendo una de las primeras ediciones del espectáculo que celebraba Jerry Lewis para la Distrofia Muscular, en Palm Gardens. En su continuo interés por la música, sobre todo el género afroantillano, formó parte del sexteto Pipo y su Combo y del grupo Andy Harlow y su Sexteto. En el mismo cantó y tocó conga. En 1967, hizo su primera grabación discográfica con Joey Pastrana titulada Let's Ball. En ésta, el entonces adolescente Ismael se anotó su primer éxito radiofónico, con "Rumbón melón". Dada la buena impresión que causó sus actuaciones con Andy Harlow, el hermano de este, Larry Harlow, llamado el Judío Maravilloso, decidió reclutarlo para su orquesta.

A protege of the great Chucho Valdes, Yamaha Artist Dayramir Gonzalez, is a three-time Cubadisco award-winner and the first Cuban national to receive Berklee College of Music’s “Presidential Scholarship” and the 2013 Wayne Shorter Award for most outstanding jazz composer. In 2012, he was a headliner in Carnegie Hall’s “Voices of Latin America Series,” invited by Chucho Valdes to represent the young generation of Cuban jazz pianists. His latest album “The Grand Concourse” was named one of the Top 40 albums of 2018 and received 4.5 stars from Downbeat. Carnegie Hall has called Cuban piano phenom Dayramir González "A distinctive voice in the pantheon of Cuban jazz," and was also hailed by the Wall Street Journal as "A stunningly gifted composer and arranger, an entertainer who captures the attention and live spirit of the audience in every performance."
