The Missionary Oblates are a Roman Catholic religious community of priests and brothers. Founded in France by St. Eugene De Mazenod in 1816, there are currently some 4,000 Oblate priests and brothers serving in more than 60 countries around the world. The Missionary Oblates choose to live and work among the poorest people in the world, in countries like Sri Lanka, Zambia, Mexico, the Philippines, Haiti, India and Brazil. Saint Meinrad Archabbey was founded in 1854 by monks of the Abbey of Einsiedeln in Switzerland. Today, over 70 monks of this Benedictine community still live by the Rule of St. Benedict, and with the motto of ora et labora (prayer and work). One of the primary works of Saint Meinrad has been the education of future leaders of the Catholic Church. The Seminary and School of Theology provides education and formation for priests, permanent deacons, lay ministers, and youth.
