Celebrating the Scottish National Bard and Poet Robert Burns born on January 25, 1759 in Alloway Scotland.

Today the world celebrates this talented Scottish Poet and Bard. We usually all meet up with Kilts on and Fancy formal attire to Dance to the Pipe music, eat the Haggis, sing songs together and toast Robbie Burns with Whisky and reciting of his beautiful Poetry.
Since we all can't meet and watch the festivities I thought I would bring the celebrations to you through song and poetry. Grab your favorite dram and sit back and enjoy this Virtual celebration through Bagpipes and Poems. The four Poems and tunes that are performed are some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them too.

**First Poem and Tune:
"Sweet Afton"
Written in 1791 and set to music by Jonathan E. Spilman in 1837.

**Second Poetry and Pipe Tune:
"The Banks O'Doon"
Written in 1791, The song was inspired by the story of Margaret (Peggy) Kennedy (1766—95), who was seduced and then abandoned by Andrew McDouall, the son of a wealthy family and sometime Member of Parliament for Wigtonshire. Kennedy sued for a declarator of marriage, but died prior to adjudication of the case.

**Third Poem and Pipe tune:
"Ae Fond Kiss"
written in 1791 and is one of his most famous Love Poems.
While there he established a platonic relationship with Mrs Agnes Maclehose and they began a regular correspondence using the pseudonyms 'Clarinda' and 'Sylvander'. Burns wrote 'Ae fond kiss' after their final meeting and sent it to Maclehose on 27 December 1791 before she departed Edinburgh for Jamaica to be with her estranged husband.

**Fourth Poem and Pipe Tune:
"My Hearts in the Highlands"
Written in 1789 and is a song and poem by Robert Burns sung to the tune Failte na Miosg.

I hope you had your favorite Whisky handy... I enjoyed the new "Sassanach" whisky myself! Sláinte!!

Happy Burns Night!!
