Considered a pearl of the Romanian coast, Mamaia it is located on the sand cordon that separates the salty waters of the sea from the fresh waters of Lake Siutghiol. Mamaia Beach is the largest beach on the Romanian coast, with a length of 10 km - from the Hotel "Park" to the "Pirates' Inn" - and a width that varies between 100 and 200 m to the north and 50-100 m to the south.
At the end of the 19th century, the main beach of Constanța was “La Vii”, towards the southern cliff of the city, a beach that was reached by a train whose station was next to the current headquarters of the Constanța Court. Having started the arrangement works of the Port of Constanța, by Anghel Saligny, the need to change the city's beach makes the choice fall, as a result of the insistence of the mayor, professor Ion Bănescu, on a deserted land, with dunes reaching even 6-7 m, east of Lake Siutghiol, at the end of which was the fishing village of Mamaia. Inaugurated on August 22, 1906, the resort benefited from a railway that connected it to Constanța and a train station located next to the current restaurant "Tic-Tac", the road to the resort lasting half an hour. The plans for the subdivision of the beach and the systematization of the land are entrusted to the architect Ed Redon, but until the First World War only a few villas and the Bath Pavilion (destroyed by a fire in 1920), designed by the architect Petre Antonescu, and in 1913 a small landscaped park. Most of the pre-World War II buildings were built between 1925 and 1938. It starts with the erection of 35 villas, especially around the Royal Pavilion and the Casino (built in 1935), and in 1934 the first hotel villa was built, the Albatros villa, so that between 1936-1938 the first hotel was built - "Grand Hotel Rex". After the Second World War, the resort of Mamaia gradually begins to take on its appearance today, always remaining the largest resort on the coast.
