The Rajkumari Ratnavati Girl's School is an oasis of education and innovation nestled in Thar desert near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. What is truly astonishing about this all-girls school is its ability to remain cool without air conditioning despite the blistering heat of Rajasthan, where temperatures can soar to 45-50 degrees Celsius during summers. The genius behind this marvel is architect Diana Kellog, who designed the school with the collaboration of local craftsmen from Jaisalmer. The school's ingenuity lies in its oval shape that aids in wind circulation, along with walls constructed from three layers of sandstone, marble, and lime plaster, which act as a sunray reflector. Additionally, windows are strategically placed at a height of 6 feet to prevent direct sunlight from reaching the students, and the roof is tiled to reflect sunrays. The school is also focused on sustainability as it relies on solar panels for electricity and has an underground water tank with a capacity of 2.5 lakh liters for harvesting rainwater. The school uniforms have been designed by the renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. #India #jaisalmer #rajasthan #desert #school #education #girl #free #sustainability #green #architecture #construction
