The Virtual Linguistics Campus

The educational videos in this channel (complete list: https://bit.ly/2YRk5yD) are interconnected with the E-Learning units on the Virtual Linguistics Campus (https://oer-vlc.de) , the E-Learning platform for linguistics hosted by Prof. Handke's award winning Linguistic Engineering Team of Marburg University, Germany, but can also be used as stand-alone instructional videos. The early videos were produced in a classroom-setting, since 2015, we have applied an office-setting using an ActivBoard or a green screen and Camtasia Studio. And our presentation strategy? It is essential for us that in E-Lectures you always see your lecturer. Instead of reading off without being visible and presenting our content in a sterile way, we can be watched while lecturing - with all our mistakes and weaknesses - but that's the human factor, isn't it? The Micro-Lectures, by contrast, due to their brevity and conciseness do not involve a talking head.

Simon Roper

I make videos mainly about topics in linguistics, but occasionally about anthropology in general. Me and a few friends produce comedy films and sketches, some of which will probably be published soon. I had previously used my university email address here, but I am using a personal one for the time being - it should be attached somewhere on the 'about' page. I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, so I won't be able to reply to everything :( However, I'll check emails regularly, and set aside time to respond every few days.

American Pronunciation Guide

The American Pronunciation Guide (“APG”) is devoted to descriptive linguistics--i.e., the study of the internal phonological, grammatical, and semantic structures of languages without reference to the history of the language or comparison with other languages. Accordingly, we believe that the best way to learn how to pronounce a word is to listen to how our peers say it. To help foster such descriptive learning, APG publishes videos combining relevant clips from popular culture. We hope you enjoy!
