After having spent 41 years in the Ministry, I retired from pastoring in July, 2017 to spend more time enjoying the Great Outdoors. While pastoring I could only spend a limited time hiking and backpacking in the wilderness. Whereas, now I can go on extended trips and excursions without having to rush back to fulfil my duties at church. Backpacking, camping, hiking, and all things related. I generally favor "lightweight" backpacking, meaning that my focus is more on mileage than being comfortable in camp. I've thru-hiked the Benton MacKaye Trail, the Sheltowee Trace in Kentucky, the Appalachian Trail, the Colorado Trail, the Foothills Trail, the Georgia Loop, and the Bartram Trail.

It all started with a childhood dream that had been tucked away neatly in the back of my mind. When I was 10 years old my family took a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We went to Newfound Gap and hiked about a mile on the Appalachian Trail. Dad told me it went all the way to MaineI When we turned around to go back to the parking area I distinctly remember looking over my shoulder, wanting to keep going toward Maine. Fast forward to present day and I thought it impractical to leave my career and set off on a trail for months. The thing about big dreams is they nag at you until you can’t be comfortable anymore. That’s when Jonathan, my husband (aka “Platinum) and I decided to go on our first backpacking trip in 2018-to section hike the Smokys on the Appalachian Trail. When we finished he said I want to hike the whole trail with you-let’s find a way to make it happen. So we did! Hey! I'm Joe Brewer and my goal with this channel is to inspire adventure, share backpacking knowledge, and present you with content that keeps your mind in nature, even if you happen to be sitting at home. Home is where the heart is and what better place to call home than the natural world. After making most of my backpacking gear from scratch in 2012, I decided to give that gear the ultimate test by thruhiking the Appalachian Trail. Throughout that 6 month journey I completely re-evaluated my goals in life and set my sights on future hikes. I returned in 2014 to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, thruhiked the Continental Divide Trail in 2015, and have been exploring a variety of trails across the US since. I was an elementary school teacher at the time it seemed best to start after the school year ended. That meant, Appalachian Trail SOBO, which started off a serious interest in long distance hiking. It's 2023 and I've completed my TRIPLE CROWN and a bit more. Over the last few years I've had incredible adventures and experiences of all kinds. Backpacking is a kind of movement meditation and I have found many things out about myself on these journeys.

I'm a long distance hiker and backpacker who moved to Colorado after hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019. In 2022, I finished my second long distance hike, the Continental Divide Trail.
