One of the aspects of guitar playing that I love and enjoy is improvising. Through improvisation I can express myself freely, a way to escape from the world and forget about all my problems. Here are my 10 improvisation tips to help get you started: 1. Learn Pentatonic scales, this is the most used scale for soloing on guitar in rock and blues music. 2. Learn Natural Minor scale or Aeolian, this is also the most used scale for guitarist. 3. Learn Major scale or Ionian, this mode is the first of the 7 modes. 4. Learn chord tones and triads. Targeting the right notes in the chords you playing over to make melodies. As the chord changes, you change the notes that you play. Ex: in C Major chords: target C - E - G to start or end your solo phrases. 5. Learn Modes: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian. 6. Learn licks from other musicians and playing it over various backing tracks to work on timing and feel, and make it your own." Good artists copy, great artists

I'm a passionate musician although it is the least of what I do these days. I bought a legendary concert hall in 2004: aeolianhall.ca After making it into a Registered Canadian Charity, I launched a number of programs including El Sistema Aeolian, a free, intensive, after-school music program for kids with barriers to participation in music education. I also present concerts with names like Chick Corea, The Vienna Boys Choir and Buffy Saint-Marie. It's been really enriching to get off the road and have a home to make music in. I keep my playing going when I can and have been presenting a new video each night during the Covid-19 Pandemic to keep people inspired and myself sane. I love connecting with people and my listeners have introduced me to so many great composers and works! Thank you for that! I also love to do public speaking about my work and have done a TEDx talk on the power of music. Thanks for listening and I hope you've enjoyed some of the videos!

Hi, we are Kate and Iain, we cast off the lines from our home port in the U.K. in April 2021 to adventure on our 40 ft sailboat, a Najad 391 called “Intrepid Bear”. In 2021 we crossed the Bay of Biscay and sailed the Atlantic coast of Spain and Portugal. In April 2022 we crossed 1640nm from Gibraltar to Montenegro without going ashore. We had no Schengen time left so could only pass through without stopping. We then spent the summer of 2022 in Greece before returning to Montenegro for the winter. The 2023 season so far has had us visit to Italy, Sicily, the Aeolian islands, and Corsica. We’re making our way north to cruise colder climes in upcoming seasons. Music has always been my passion, since I could remember. My family immigrated to Australia, Victoria, from the island Lipari, it is the largest of the Aeolian Islands of Sicily. As a young child I recall my family always happily singing and rehearsing in the lounge room, and through this experience, it has given me the encouragement to be in the music scene just like my father (John Mandarano), a guitarist and a singer who had his very own band. I remember every Saturday night helping my father carry his instruments, and he would always allow me to get up and sing occasionally at the musical functions. Singing has always been in my heart, and I have decided to pursue my singing. showed me not to give up on my dream and allowed me to realise, your never too young or old, I am going to write and sing my own song. I play guitar, mountain dulcimer, and bowed psaltery along with some other instruments I'm still learning to play. I play and/or sing just about any kind of music and I have written and composed many original songs. I enjoy writing and playing songs in what are called the Modern Western Modes (Aeolian, Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, etc.).
